Please join our iNaturalist and Notes from Nature expeditions and help gather data on species in the Park!
No experience is necessary to participate in these citizen science platforms! Your involvement is a critical component to research in the Park. The Park uses data from these platforms for a variety of research projects. For example, last year's iNaturalist observations are being used to map distributions of vulnerable populations in the Smokies. Please consider participating in these platforms during the 2019 Pilgrimage!

The 2019 Wildflower Pilgrimage iNaturalist expedition helped generate 3,612 observations for the park! These observations have been used to create models to better understand the distribution of different species in the park. Please come to the 2020 event prepared to help the Park collect even more data with the iNaturalist app!

The Notes from Nature events were held for the first time in 2018 and helped the park to database a significant amount of information from herbarium specimens, which are preserved collections of plants. We have created springtime-specific Notes from Nature Expeditions that will help you brush up on your plant names while at the same time generating much-needed data for the Park!
